Car Repairs
We are Hamilton’s auto repair specialists for all types of vehicle – petrol, diesel, European. No job is too big or small for our experienced team. Our car repair services include:
Brakes and suspension
Brakes and suspension are what make for a smooth ride and the ability to stop quickly. Worn out suspension components such as shocks, struts, trailing arms, control arms and bushes cause premature wear and weak performance of the brake system. Brake systems use friction to stop the vehicle and have many components (master cylinder, slave cylinder, brake discs, brake pads, brake rotor, brake drum, brake shoes, wheel cylinders and callipers).
We offer brake machining on our in-house brake lathe, from $35* per brake disc or brake drum.
* All prices include GST.
Cambelt replacement
A cambelt is the timing belt that turns the camshaft and crankshaft sprockets and keeps the crankshaft and camshafts synchronised, opening and closing valves at just the right time to enable the smooth running of the engine. The cambelt and teeth are made of rubber and deteriorate over time and with mileage.
Replacing a cambelt should be done every 6 years or 100,000km, or according to manufacturers’ recommendations. Otherwise, this timing belt can snap, break or deteriorate, causing serious engine problems such as bent valves and/or piston damage.
Most newer cars have timing chains, which are more durable.
Cooling systems
A pressurised cooling system ensures the engine is kept at its optimal operating temperature. Failure to maintain this system can cause a blown head gasket. If you have a coolant leak, we can pressure-test your cooling system to find and repair the leak.
Clutches and transmission repairs
A clutch disengages the crankshaft from the gearbox, allowing the driver to change gear without causing binding of the machinery. In an automatic vehicle, this engaging and disengaging happens based on the RPM.
Servicing your transmission is just as important as serving your engine. Automatic transmissions should be serviced every 50,000 to 100,000 km and manual transmissions every 35,000 to 70,000 km.
Drivetrain
The drivetrain is a combination of parts such as differential, driveshaft, axles, CV joints, and the wheels that keeps the vehicle in motion.
We often find that the reason a wheel alignment isn’t effective is because something has failed in the drivetrain.
Exhaust systems
The exhaust system takes the harmful exhaust fumes away from the cabin and the engine. Composed of an exhaust manifold (which collects the initial exhaust from the engine), the catalytic converter (which burns off any fuel that wasn’t burnt efficiently in the engine), as well as pipes and mufflers which help reduce the noise from the engine.
Injector cleaning
We have an injector tester in-house and offer injector testing for $30 and testing and cleaning for $40 per injector.
Diagnostic scanning
Our diagnostic scans cost $75.
Car batteries, alternators and starter motors
The car battery supplies electric charge that travels through the starting system. The starter motor is an electric motor on the side of the engine. Its bendix drive allows the pinion gear to engage the flywheel to start the engine. Once the car is running, the alternator spins the alternator belt which sends current back to the battery to recharge the battery while you drive. All three components must be working in sync to ensure your car starts seamlessly.
We offer FREE battery tests.
Headlight restoration
We offer headlight restoration starting from $70 per headlight that comes with a 2-year guarantee.
